Train to Machu Picchu


Perurail offers different schedules and types of train service to Machu Picchu. Prices vary according to the route, type of train and departure time. Each train offers a different service and experience. Buy your train tickets to Machu Picchu, Cusco, Ollantaytambo and Urubamba on our Perurail accredited site.

Bimodal Service

The Bimodal service consists of the trip from Cusco to Ollantaytambo by bus and from Ollantaytambo to Machu Picchu Pueblo by train.

The bus leaves from the Wanchaq train station (downtown) and goes to the train station in the town of Ollantaytambo. After disembarking the bus, passengers board the train to Machu Picchu Pueblo.

Luggage Allowance for Traveling by Train



Carry-on baggage

Allowed with the following characteristics:

  • 1 bag or backpack per person.
  • Not more than 5 kg /11 lb.
  • 62 inch / 157 cm linear (height + length + width).

Hold baggage

Perurail has a hold wagon and allows baggage with the following features:

  • 2 carry-on bags or suitcases per person.
  • Together they should weigh 23 kg / 50.6lb.
  • The dimensions must respect the indicated weight.

Luggage storage at train stations

Perurail offers storage free of charge at the following train stations:

  • Ollantaytambo Train Station: 04:15 hrs. - 21:00 hrs.
  • Machu Picchu Train Station: 08:00 hrs. - 22:00 hrs.

Preguntas Frecuentes

  • What happens if I carry more luggage than allowed?

    PeruRail reserves the right to remove any type of object and/or luggage that obstructs the train exits or that it deems pertinent to affect other passengers or the travel route.

  • Is there a charge for additional baggage if my ticket only includes carry-on baggage?

    There is no charge. It is simply not allowed to enter with luggage that does not comply with the conditions already established.

  • What items may not be carried on the train?
    Weapons, ammunition, explosives and flammable substances or any object that poses a danger to passengers, crew members and/or cargo, among others detailed in the previous section.
